On behalf of the Japan Glaucoma Society, it is our great pleasure to welcome you to the 12th World Glaucoma Congress, to be held in the historic city of Kyoto, Japan, from 20–23 April 2027.
The Japan Glaucoma Society is honored to co-host WGC-2027 with the World Glaucoma Association. Since the decision to hold the 2027 Congress in Japan was officially announced at WGC-2025 in Hawaii, we have been working with great enthusiasm to prepare for this important international meeting. For us, this Congress holds special meaning, as WGC-2021, originally planned to be held in Japan, had to be converted to a fully virtual meeting due to the COVID-19 pandemic. We are therefore especially delighted to finally have the opportunity to welcome colleagues from around the world to Japan in person.
Mid-April is one of the most pleasant seasons in Kyoto, when soft spring sunlight and fresh greenery create a beautiful and refreshing atmosphere. We hope that this setting will provide an ideal environment for participants to meet face to face, exchange ideas, deepen scientific and clinical knowledge, and build new collaborations.
In addition to the rich scientific program of WGC-2027, the Japan Glaucoma Society will also host its original programs on the final day, Friday, 23 April. We hope these sessions will further highlight the clinical and scientific contributions of Japanese glaucoma specialists and provide additional opportunities for international exchange.
We sincerely hope that WGC-2027 in Kyoto will become a meaningful step forward in shaping the future of glaucoma care. We very much look forward to welcoming you to Kyoto.
Nobuyuki Shoji
President, Japan Glaucoma Society
