The World Glaucoma Congress 2021 is going Beyond Borders

As COVID-19 is changing the way the world connects, celebrates, and communicates together, we can move forward and connect virtually during these uncertain times. While many have started receiving vaccination, because of the expanding COVID epidemic and the lack of clarity about travel for a physical meeting, the WGA Board of Governors has decided to transform the 9th World Glaucoma Congress® into a fully virtual meeting. We believe this is the safest approach for the well-being of our global audience and we are excited that a virtual congress makes it possible to broaden the learning opportunities and engagement with the glaucoma community.

The 9th World Glaucoma E-Congress® Beyond Borders will take place June 30-July 3, 2021, returning to our traditional end of June/early July dates.

WGC-2021 Beyond Borders will offer educational exchanges, scientific news, and best practice updates. The congress will cover topics from basic science and genetics of glaucoma, to the latest developments in the medical and surgical management of glaucoma. It will be virtually hosted by the Japan Glaucoma Society (JGS).

This special edition will be available virtually across the globe. Delegates will experience the beauty of Japan, and this unique congress will have a strong local character of our host country.

Our Program Planning Committee is working to adapt the program to a virtual-only format, with possibilities for areas of innovation given the opportunities with this new approach. We are also working closely with the JGS to develop the best joint program we can for our members.

Registration will open in February 2021, you can already submit your abstract via the WGC-2021 website.

Tune in from June 30-July 3, 2021 for the 9th World Glaucoma E-Congress® Beyond Borders, an online experience you don’t want to miss!

Best wishes,

Fabian Lerner
WGA President
